Join Livable Memphis and visiting researcher Simone Tulumello from the University of Memphis in envisioning a future for safer neighborhoods in Memphis. The Safer Neighborhoods Workshop is a space for collaborative discussion of how to address the structural problems at the root of crime and violence in our communities. We will discuss and critique two future scenarios in which crime is greatly reduced and public safety on the rise: one based on increased policing and incarceration; and another based on community development, urban design, and criminal justice reform. Safer Neighborhoods Workshop participants will collectively discuss these envisioned initiatives and make recommendations for policies and practices toward achieving each scenario.
Presented in partnership with the University of Memphis Graduate Program in City & Regional Planning.
