Who is a Neighborhood Leader?
YOU are! Anyone who wants to learn about ways to make their neighborhood a better place to live is a neighborhood leader.
Pizza with Planners is BLDG Memphis’ ongoing series of free workshops for neighborhood leaders. During these workshops, participants gain a better understanding of how the system works, meet stakeholders and resource providers, and provides a platform to ask questions to better understand how the topics relate to their neighborhoods. Each workshop ties back to supporting BLDG Memphis’ five policy focus areas: transportation and safety, economic and community development, neighborhood and local government relations, reuse and revitalization and lastly affordable housing. Through these series of events, we hope to establish a growing culture of informed Memphians within community development and civic engagement. This workshop event is open to the general public and there is a strong preference for neighborhood leaders and those interested in becoming actively involved within their community.
Upcoming Pizza with Planners Events:
Strong leaders support strong neighborhoods. BLDG Memphis will host a non-partisan candidate forum in the lead up to the City of Memphis Municipal election on October 5. The questions posed to the candidates during the forum will focus on issues of neighborhood investment.
The forum will include candidates running for Mayor and City Council. Prior to the event, candidates will submit a questionnaire responding to questions related to affordable housing, transit & mobility, solid waste & litter, and racial equity. We will publicize the answers online a week before the forum to allow residents the chance to learn about the candidates’ positions on these important community issues.
We encourage you to register in advance to attend and submit your own questions for the candidate forum.
