Transportation & Safety

Mission

The Transportation & Mobility Work Group advocates to ensure safe and quality mobility options for public transit and pedestrian related activities such as walking and biking.

Work Group Chair: Jared Myers, Executive Director, The Heights

2021 Policy Priorities

The Transportation & Safety working group convenes stakeholders in various transportation and public space-oriented efforts to work collaboratively on policy items, raise awareness through advocacy, and hold decision-makers accountable in providing equitable access and mobility. This year the group will focus on:

  • Expanding CDC neighborhood-level programming and advocacy efforts for zero traffic deaths & pedestrian safety initiatives
  • Increasing funding to support transit options and pedestrian activities and infrastructure in neighborhoods

Last year Memphis ranked the deadliest year on record for pedestrians, and is consistently ranked as one of the most dangerous cities for pedestrians in the county. BLDG Memphis supports a vision zero strategy to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries.

Vision Zero starts with the ethical belief that everyone has the right to move safely in their communities, and that system designers and policy makers share the responsibility to ensure safe systems for travel

Help Memphis move toward realizing our vision of zero deaths or serious injuries on our roads by taking the BLDG Memphis Traffic Safety Pledge to practice safe behaviors while traveling from one place to another By signing this pledge
