Even after two decades of work, the concept of a “community development corporation” remains a mystery to some. Come hear a panel of emerging leaders talk about their experiences and visions on the front lines of neighborhood-based development in core city Memphis.
New City Builders, a program of the Community Development Council and Livable Memphis, is composed of workers in the CDC industry. Candidates in the program are recommended by their Directors. In many cases, these new leaders will be the next generation of executive directors and managers learning what it takes to rebuild ailing areas of our city.
A panel of New City Builders will explain their work and engage participants in a discussion of their neighborhoods, their skills, and their vision of community development. We’ll talk blight, vacant lots, property opportunities, bad landlords and bad tenants, and network heroes and out-to-lunch partners.
Come and add your vision to the equation as you learn about the impact, the holism, and the incredible efforts of people who are committed to place—and re-building Memphis, one lot at a time.
