MEMPHIS, TN - The U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is making available $1 billion in grant funding to state and local governments impacted by disasters in 2011 – 2013 for the purpose of promoting innovative resilience projects to better prepare communities for future storms and other events.
A total of 67 eligible applicants competed in Phase I of the National Disaster Resilience Competition (NDRC). Of those, 40 were chosen to go on to Phase II, including Shelby County. [Shelby County is an eligible applicant for grant award due to the storm events that took place in 2011].
Through September, the Memphis-Shelby County Division of Planning and Development (in partnership with Livable Memphis) will host a series of public meetings and attend community events to inform residents about the NDRC; learn more about specific disaster relief needs; and discuss potential countywide and neighborhood-focused resilience projects.
