City Budget Game
Balancing a city's budget is a massive undertaking requiring give-and-take and managing man competing values, interests and stakeholders. Making Memphis and its neighborhoods more vibrant, sustainable, and livable requires resources. Understanding the city budget process enables citizen advocates and community groups to better identify available resources needed and create a viable timeline for neighborhood change.
We offer a City Budget Game to help with this educational process. This quick workshop places participants into various roles, from public officials to community advocates, in an imaginary community and then challenges them to balance the budget. This game sparks some probing conversations about the investments we make in our communities.
